We take care of health content

Society is changing, as are healthcare expectations. The emergence of new technologies has facilitated access to information and patients have taken on a new role, that of active patients. These are people who seek information on their health issues, assume responsibility for their health and go to the surgery with previously acquired knowledge. Given this context and its public service vocation, the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus asked us to create new content for its web portal in order to provide information on the diseases it treats and health advice for the general public.

Part of the public health system, the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus is the largest hospital complex in Catalonia and one of the most important of its kind in Europe. It comprises the General, Children’s, Women’s and Traumatology, Rehabilitation and Burns Hospitals.

Bringing high-quality health content to the general public

Working in coordination with the campus department of Communication Management, Corporate Strategy and Citizen Care, the topics to be developed and the approach are defined in partnership with the medical team.

We created the medical content by combining three criteria: medical rigour, plain language and search engine optimisation. Visitors to the website had to perceive that the content on offer was valuable, carefully crafted and validated by the healthcare professionals. As a result of this content strategy, the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus enhanced its online reputation and connected with the needs of these new active patients.

The search engine positioning and optimisation were other key factors. The contents were optimised for SEO, both to position the keywords and to improve their legibility. By publishing this high-quality content that all citizens could understand, keywords were positioned to generate searches, enabling the Campus and Vall d’Hebron University Hospital website to receive more visits from users and more of them recurring. This helped the Google search engine to improve its page rank and increase its visibility.
